The Melville High School board of trustees could escape a conviction -- after a student died on a school trip

The Melville High School board of trustees could escape a conviction -- after a student died on a school trip

17-year-old Jaden Chhayrann got caught in a rip after going for a swim while on a geography trip at Waihi Beach.

His body found near Whiritoa Beach a couple of weeks later.

Melville High's facing WorkSafe charges and has entered a not guilty plea.

But, today WorkSafe's prosecutor told a judge both parties want to enter into an 'enforceable undertaking', which could see the school avoid a conviction.

The case has been remanded until November --where a final decision will be made on whether it will be settled out of court.
