The teen allegedly robbed two places in Hamilton yesterday four hours apart, setting off fog alarms in his wake.
At the Z service station in Fairfield a staff member was threatened before the fog cannon was activated and the employee retreated to a safe room.
The would-be robber left empty handed, then tried again, demanding cash and cigarettes from a Superette in Chartwell, allegedly assaulting the cashier and leaving her with minor injuries.
A teen has appeared in the Hamilton Youth Court charged with two counts of assault with intent to commit robbery.
