Oonah Shannahan, or Oonah Murray as she then was, captained the national netball side in the first test against Australia in 1948.
Today is her 100th birthday.
The Silver Ferns lost all three tests in the series.
The series was played with seven per side as opposed to the nine a side game the kiwis were used to.
Oonah Shanahan says the other big difference was the tight defending of the Australians- something which is still a feature of the Diamonds' game
Oonah Shannahan missed the final two tests as she had bridesmaid's duties to take care of.
