After good early signs with the ball New Zealand held England to 127 for seven in 20 overs.
Taking the crease, the Ferns made a fast start before losing their first wicket at the end of the fifth over on 31.
Captain Sophie Devine led their charge, hitting 50, and helping New Zealand post 128 for six in 18.2 overs.
The decisive third match is on Friday.
