Auckland Police checkpoints are getting an extra dose of support

More than 60 additional officers from around the country are being deployed to assist their Auckland colleagues, starting with 34 in the Waikato region this week,
Compliance has been good since the level changes, but yesterday a vehicle failed to stop and drove through the southern boundary checkpoint at Mercer.
The vehicle was observed by the police helicopter heading north before stopping at a Kelston address, where police located a male driver.
He allegedly assaulted two officers, who both needed treatment for injuries.
A 27-year-old has appeared in the Waitakere District Court on a number of charges, including failing to stop, aggravated assault and driving while suspended.
