He's 53-year-old property developer Andrew Montgomerie, who pleaded NOT guilty in April to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He has elected a trial by jury, set for next June.
Police were called on April 16, to a party attended by the city's property and financial elite - at a Westmere mansion.
A man needed surgery at Auckland City Hospital, and was discharged days later.
