Whoopi Goldberg is reportedly ready to ditch 'The View' and return to acting

The 65-year-old star - whose company Whoopi Inc. was recently named in a lawsuit and accused of helping to plot to bump a long-time developer out of a plan to revitalise West Orange in New Jersey - is said to be keen to "make some changes in her life" after more than a decade on the daytime talk show

An insider told GLOBE magazine: "It's a big headache she didn't need, and it's spurred her to make some changes in her life.

"The hours on ['The View'] are long and gruelling, and she doesn't have any friends there to make it fun or exciting.

"And after 14 years doing the same thing, and fighting with co-hosts, she needs a clean break."

The 'Sister Act' star - whose most recent big screen role came in 2018's 'Nobody's Fool' - has continued to step in front of the camera, but seems keen on taking on bigger roles again.

She recently reiterated her desire to join 'Doctor Who' as the titular Time Lord, although she isn't sure BBC bosses would ever cast an American in the iconic role.

She said: "I wanted to be Doctor Who and I still do. I think it would mean an evolution into being American and I don’t know that that’s correct for 'Doctor Who'.

"I don’t know I can usurp that. As much as I love it, I love watching it still in all the iterations.

"There are certain things that are blatantly all English. 'Doctor Who' is like that to me. It’s like Marmite. It’s very English and needs to stay that way."

Back in 2019, Whoopi revealed she actually tried to land the role at one point, but TV bosses turned her down.

She explained: "I wanted to be the first female Doctor … the American version of Doctor Who ends up in New York and it’s me.

"The idea of that so made me happy. But they were like ‘Um no.’ I was like, ‘OK, I’m cool. I -understand.’"
