Claims greatly varying power costs are contributing to social inequality

Claims greatly varying power costs are contributing to social inequality

Consumer New Zealand and Power Switch research shows people in lower income areas are paying more for power.

Power Switch manager Paul Fuge says these areas tend to be further from power stations and have lower populations to spread the infrastructure cost.

He says higher prices contribute to growing inequality and energy poverty - where people have to fork out a lot of money to heat their homes.
