The blaze broke out just after midnight on Burne Road, Waitoki, in the Rodney District.
Fire and Emergency says people were inside the 15 by 15 metre building at the time, but got out safely.
Shift manager Colin Underdown says it was well ablaze when firefighters arrived, so an extra tanker was requested.
He says the fire's been extinguished and crews have left.
