A police officer with a large rifle has been seen chasing a man behind houses in Auckland's Western Springs - on Great North Road

It was part of a chase that ended in police spiking a fleeing car, which had earlier picked up a person from a car stolen in Massey.

That vehicle was being tracked by the Police Eagle helicopter

Three people are in custody and assisting police with enquiries.
