Robin Williams impression by actor Jamie Costa stuns fans and sparks calls for a movie deal

Relatively unknown actor Jamie Costa gives an uncanny performance as Robin Williams in a five-minute YouTube video that has gone viral.

No, there isn't a Robin Williams biopic in the works but fans are calling for one and they've already cast the lead role.

Relatively unknown American actor Jamie Costa gives an uncanny performance in ROBIN Test Footage Scene — a five-minute YouTube video that is presented as a screen test.

The video received millions of views before it was removed by Costa on Friday out of respect for Williams's family.

"The recent 'Robin test scene' was meant for internal use only and to be reviewed at a more appropriate and private time by those who were close," Costa wrote on YouTube.

"After being informed of its leak I attempted to get ahead of it and upload it here so as to be an honest source of its existence.

"Please be respectful of the family during this time."

The video's scene was set on March 5, 1982, the day after actor and comedian John Belushi's fatal drug overdose.

Williams, played by Costa, is rehearsing to film TV show Mork and Mindy when co-star Pam Dawber, played by Sarah Murphree, tells him about Belushi's death.

Costa's performance has been heralded as capturing Williams's iconic mannerism, voice and appearance.

When the video was available on YouTube, Williams's daughter, Zelda, acknowledged on Twitter that Costa was "SUPER talented" but asked people to stop "spamming me an impression of my late Dad on one of his saddest days".

Fans of Williams were stunned by Costa's performance and called for him to play the late comedian in a movie.

"Give this man a movie deal asap," Jordan Doww wrote on YouTube.

YouTuber JeremyShaferOrigami wrote: "I saw this in my Facebook feed and clicked on it thinking it was old lost test footage of Robin Williams himself. And I believed that the whole way through. Thank you, thank you for fooling me with such a phenomenal spot-on performance!"

Robin Williams took his own life on August 11, 2014 at his home in northern California. He was 63.

Williams's legacy as a performer remains unmatched and his sudden death sparked an outpouring of grief from generations of fans.

The Oscar-winning actor and comedian was known for his innate ability to mould his appearance and voice in comedic roles in rapid timing.

He also won acclaim for his dramatic on-screen performances including in the films Dead Poets Society (1989) and Good Will Hunting (1997).

Williams made his television debut as the zany alien Mork in Mork and Mindy, which aired from 1978 to 1982.

While filming the sitcom, Williams developed a drug and alcohol addiction that he would struggle with for the rest of his life.

He described the death of his friend, Belushi, as a huge wake-up call.

Belushi spent time with Williams and actor Robert De Niro before his death, as well as Cathy Smith, who was jailed for injecting him with the fatal combination of heroin and cocaine.

It's not the first time Costa's impression of Williams has gone viral.

In 2015, Costa released a two-minute collection of his performances titled Never Had A Friend Like Him a "personal tribute" to Williams.

Since then actor has appeared in a number of short high-end fan films including Kenobi: A Star Wars Story and Exodus: Jurassic World.
