The Firebirds open their domestic cricket campaign against Otago in the four-day Plunket Shield, starting today at the Basin Reserve.
Coach Glenn Pocknall was away as the interim Black Caps coach for their tour of Bangladesh.
As well as that, batting coach Doug Watson was stuck in Auckland for the start of lockdown, who admits it's been tough.
Canterbury host Central Districts in the other clash from Hagley Oval.
Both get underway at 10:30am.
