Police have arrested one person after a gun was fired in Waikanae, on the Kapiti Coast, this morning

Police have arrested one person after a gun was fired in Waikanae, on the Kapiti Coast, this morning

They were alerted shortly after 8am, and were also told a firearm had been pointed at a member of the public.

No one was hurt and police aren't looking for anyone else.

Detective Inspector Eddie Sutherland acknowledges it's a very distressing incident but is reassuring the Waikanae community there's no risk to their safety.

There'll be an increased police presence in the town today, while staff establish the circumstances of the incident.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses on 105 or Crimestoppers.
