    The top three qualified drivers reckon Jamie Whincup and champion-elect Shane van Gisbergen will play a role in the Bathurst 1000 today despite their lower positions on the grid


    Van Gisbergen, last year's champion at Mount Panorama, qualified fifth fastest while Whincup ahead of his last race as a full-time driver is 11th.

    Cameron Waters, who will start from third, says Triple Eight Racing remain a threat.



    Racing starts at 2:15pm.
