24 hours ago Collin Morikawa was one good round of golf away from ascending to the world number one ranking for the first time

That will have to wait after a disastrous final round at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, where he squandered a five-shot lead to finish tied for fifth.

Morikawa had a four-over day, slipping to 14-under for the tournament.

The beneficiary was his close friend Norway's Viktor Hovland , who took the trophy with a final round six-under 66.
