Distress over the decision by Police not to charge a former Lake Alice psychiatrist
9 December 2021
While an 89-year-old will face court next week charged with ill-treatment of a child -- two others, including Selwyn Leeks, have been found medically unfit to stand trial.
Police found enough evidence to charge the 92-year-old former child psychiatrist -- but they can't, as he's unable to defend himself in court.
The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry Chair, Coral Shaw, is reassuring survivors the inquiry can still make findings against his conduct at Lake Alice.
Leeks was the psychiatrist in charge of the Lake Alice Child and Adolescent Unit -- and over decades has faced several allegations of abuse against his patients.
