People are being urged to keep an eye on the weather forecast as Cyclone Cody makes its way past

People are being urged to keep an eye on the weather forecast as Cyclone Cody makes its way past

The centre of cyclone is now expected to track just east of New Zealand from late Sunday.

A Heavy Rain Watch has been issued for Gisborne and the Wairoa District, as well as a Strong Wind Watch for eastern Bay of Plenty.

MetService meteorologist Angus Hines says the weather is still expected to be bad, despite the centre of the cyclone missing New Zealand.

He says this storm is likely to pack quite a punch on the eastern coastlines.
