The fire on Papakura-Clevedon Road in Ardmore broke out around four yesterday afternoon.
Incident controller Thomas Harre says it covers ten hectares, not 16 as previously thought, because smoke made it hard to originally estimate.
He says three crews are still there using hand tools and hoses.
Harre says it's close to a horse arena, and a few structures like houses and sheds so they're making containment lines very secure.
