GDP dropped by 0.2 percent in the first quarter of the year. Westpac and ANZ were picking zero growth, ASB forecast 0.6 percent and KiwiBank 0.8 percent growth.
The Reserve Bank forecast 0.7 percent growth.
ANZ Chief Economist Sharon Zollner says manufacturing data out about a week ago, revealed the data would be weaker. She says they revised their pick down from 0.6 to zero, and in the context of all the volatility we're seeing, they're chuffed with only being point two off.
