A police officer attacked while off-duty at a party suffers ongoing face numbness, headaches, vertigo, slowed reactions and other issues

Open Justice reports last July constable Tyson Young was punched by Blake Hollins-Apiata before a group of teens continued to assault him as he lay injured.

The attack ended when Young's friend intervened, dragging him away.

The court summary detailed Hollins-Apiata and a friend were overhead congratulating one another saying 'you just hit a cop' and shaking hands.

The 18 year was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and jailed for two years and six months in the New Plymouth District Court this week.
