New Plymouth Police have released the name of a man killed in Blagdon on Wednesday night

He was 23-year-old Rei Marshall.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gerard Bouterey says he was a young father, and the family are devastated about his death and want answers.

The investigation team is conducting a forensic scene examination of a South Road home and a car used to transport Rei to hospital.

Police want to speak with Rei's associates, friends and family and are strongly encouraging anyone with helpful information to get in touch.
