The plane went down flying from Franz Josef to Rangiora on Thursday, with one person on board, and its wreckage has been located in the Southern Alps, near Mount Nicholson.
Canterbury Police are working with the Department of Conservation Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Rescue Team.
A police spokesperson says the weather's delaying the recovery operation.
More than 40-thousand dollars has been raised for the family of the pilot.
