This afternoon, at Labour's annual congress in Wellington, Chris Hipkins promised to make the currently temporary Apprenticeship Boost programme, permanent.
The scheme pays employers $500 per month for the first two years of an apprenticeship to support training employees.
Mr Hipkins says the success of the policy shows why it needs to stay.
He says apprenticeships are incredibly important and have been undervalued in the past.
Mr Hipkins says New Zealanders deserve to know where the Government stands on this, and they also deserve to know where the Opposition stands.
