    A former New Zealand Idol winner has been jailed for over six years for nearly killing a police officer in a deliberate hit-and-run


    Matthew Saunoa rose to fame in 2006, in season three of New Zealand Idol.

    The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to aggravated grievous bodily harm, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, burglary and a string of vehicle offences relating to the chase in Auckland 2021.

    Constable Zane Wienk, told the Manukau District court he was put in an induced coma after being hit - and spent seven weeks in hospital.
