One home has been burnt to the ground, while at least two others have been damaged, in a large fire in South Dunedin

Emergency crews have been at Phillips Street in Kensington since around 6.30 this morning.

Six fire crews battled the blaze, while police closed surrounding roads.

Witness Dean Smith believes the house would be more than 100-years-old.

The ODT is reporting it's the same property where a person died in a house fire in April last year.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area, while they also deal with a truck crashed into a powerpole at the nearby intersection of King Edward Street and Wilkie Road.
