An egg wholesaler who has gone bust owing creditors nearly three quarters of a million dollars blames the recent ban on battery-farm hens

The phase-out ban came into force at the start of this year and caused a shortage of eggs on supermarket shelves.

BusinessDesk reports NZ Eggs was set up in 2021 and operated rather successfully, but it crashed and stopped trading in May because of the shortage.

BDO's Iain Shepherd and Jessica Kellow have been appointed liquidators of the company - which changed its name to Short Supply Limited - before their appointment last week.
