Heading in the right direction, but still not great numbers on the trade deficit

Heading in the right direction, but still not great numbers on the trade deficit

Stats NZ data for October shows exports fell to five-point-four-billion dollars annually, with imports down to just over seven-billion dollars on last year.

The annual trade deficit is 14-point-eight-billion dollars, slightly better than September's 15-point-four-one billion-dollars.

Infometrics chief economist Brad Olsen says it's an improvement, but it remains a concern.

He says we're still importing more than we're exporting.
