The Government says streamlining how granny flats are resourced - won't sacrifice their quality

The Government says streamlining how granny flats are resourced - won't sacrifice their quality

The Coalition's released a discussion document, proposing amending the Building Act and resource management system.

The plan agreed between National-and-NZ First would let people build structures up to 60 square metres - requiring just an engineering report.

RMA Reform Minister Chris Bishop says cutting red tape will save time and money.

He says there'll be safeguards so they keep meeting expectations of quality and managing environmental effects.

Bishop says they want them to be safe, healthy and durable homes.
