A UK national has been arrested over a scam that's cost 18 Aucklanders nearly 300-thousand-dollars

A UK national has been arrested over a scam that's cost 18 Aucklanders nearly 300-thousand-dollars

The 25-year-old's accused of running a cold-calling scam - pretending to be a police officer.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Bolton, says the caller asked victims for financial information - or to withdraw cash - as part of an investigation into banks.

He says officers caught a man after chasing him on foot through central Auckland, when he arrived to collect 20-thousand-dollars from a victim's house.

The man will appear in Auckland District Court today for multiple charges and Police will oppose bail.
