Joe Biden has been hailed for restoring "dignity" and "integrity" to the US while "upholding democracy" in the nation

Famous faces rushed to heap praise on the 81-year-old democrat moments after he announced with a letter posted on X he was stepping down from the 2024 White House race against his 78-year-old rival Donald Trump, who is riding hiding on a wave of MAGA support after surviving an assassination attempt on 13 July

Former US president Barack Obama, 62, said on X: "Joe Biden has been one of America's most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me.

"Today, we've also been reminded - again - that he's a patriot of the highest order."

'Star Wars' actor Mark Hamill, 72, posted about Joe's run in power following a chaos-filled four years of Trump as president: "Joe Biden has a record of accomplishments unmatched by any president in our lifetime.

"He restored honesty, dignity and integrity to the office after four years of lies, crime, scandal and chaos.

"Thank you for your service, Mr President. It's now our duty as patriotic Americans to elect the Democrat who will honour and further your legacy."

Long-time Joe supporter Barbra Streisand, 82, said on X: "Joe Biden will go down in history as a man who accomplished significant achievements in his four-year term. We should be grateful for his upholding of our democracy."

Political comic Jon Stewart, 61, posted: "Legend."

'Star Trek' actor George Takei, 87, also weighed in on the news Joe was quitting his bid for another four years as US president, saying on X: "I want to honour our President @JoeBiden.

"He has served our nation admirably for decades, he is a decent honourable man, a hugely successful president, and a patriot.

"Now let us unite behind @KamalaHarris and defeat Donald Trump in November!"

Rapper Lil Nas X, 25, commented on Joe's Instagram post with the gag: "Wow It's really jover."

Trump shared his thoughts on his Truth Social platform, saying: "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was!"
