Until recently, diagnoses for the disease could only be made post-mortem or in an invasive procedure.
However, a 300-thousand-dollar fund to New Zealand researchers could mean that's changed.
University of Canterbury Psychology Professor, John Dalrymple-Alford says there's a much more low impact way.
He says the same indicators can be identified simply through people's tears.
