Japan's issued its first 'megaquake' warning after a strong earthquake hit off its coast

The 7.1 earthquake hit in the middle of Thursday afternoon Japanese time, but there are no reports of serious damage.

Its Meteorological Agency later announced 'Mega-thrust Earthquake Attention' in the Nankai Trough area.

It stressed the warning doesn't mean a large earthquake is imminent, but the probability is higher than usual.
