The Drug Foundation's advising caution after finding potentially fatal methamphetamine levels in Rinda pineapple lollies

The Drug Foundation's advising caution after finding potentially fatal methamphetamine levels in Rinda pineapple lollies

Donated to the Auckland City Mission, the lollies were handed out in food parcels for several weeks.

One lolly tested after a recipient noted a funny taste - was found to contain up to 300 regular doses of meth.

Drug Foundation Executive Director Sarah Helm says it's not uncommon for drug smuggling to occur through food items like lollies.

She's wondering if there's been some unintended seepage out of the drug smuggling circuit - allowing it to make its way to the City Mission.
