Kiwirail has been fined 412 thousand dollars today in Wellington District Court for the breakdown last year - plus 20-thousand costs - after earlier pleading guilty.

Maritime NZ Director, Kirstie Hewlett says it was very dangerous - and an alarming example of poorly managed maintenance.
