Catherine, Princess of Wales' announcement she is "cancer-free" sparked an outpouring of tearful relief from thousands of royal fans

The 42-year-old royal announced she had ended her chemotherapy in a statement released on Monday (09.09.24), and within minutes the comments feeds on her social media were packed with emotional well-wishes.

Fans said they had been "sobbing with joy" at her news, with one writing online about the video she used to make her announcement featuring her and her family enjoying hikes and outings in nature: "This is incredibly touching and beautiful. God bless and continue to bless this family. Heal the Princess completely."

Another said: "This cancer and chemotherapy survivor is glad to see Kate Middleton has completed her 'preventative' chemo treatment and looks to have made a full physical recovery."

Many others told Catherine they knew chemotherapy was "awful" and "horrific" and urged people to show compassion and love towards cancer sufferers.

Thousands more said they were "overjoyed" the royal was now getting to spend "carefree" and "happy times" with her family.

Catherine has children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, with her 42-year-old husband Prince William.

She said in a voiceover of her new video she still had a "long" way to go to recover from the trauma of her cancer fight.

Catherine added: "As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment.

"The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.

"The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you... doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes."
