Belief te tiriti o Waitangi and modern day democracy are interwoven

Belief te tiriti o Waitangi and modern day democracy are interwoven

ACT's controversial Treaty Principles Bill has caught caught wind overseas, sparking outrage from indigenous rights groups.

Cabinet agreed on Monday to the outline of the bill, and a six-month-long committee process.

Political scientist at Australia's Charles Sturt University Professor Dominic O'Sullivan told Sky News te tiriti gave the Crown the right to establish Government, but not to control or dominate.

Dr Sullivan says te tiriti is helpful for democracy, because it recognises power doesn't have to be all in one place.
