Christchurch's Mayor anticipates keeping rates down, will likely be the city's biggest challenge this year

Christchurch's Mayor anticipates keeping rates down, will likely be the city's biggest challenge this year

City Councillors have been weighing up options on how to bring down the more-than eight-percent projected rates increase.

Council will seek public consultation over a draft annual plan in February, before being adopted in June.

Mayor Phil Mauger says they'll have to review the level of services Council provides, and whether reductions can be made.

He says everyone's got an allergic reaction to that idea, but it is a way to keep rates down for residents. 12-18-24 1701
