A group of cyclists attending an Invercargill event, managed to add an extra race they hadn't anticipated to their weekend

The group witnessed a man take one of their bikes and ride away while having a meal on Saturday.

Sergeant Geoff Sutherland says two of the cyclists went in pursuit of the man, sandwiching and apprehending him three blocks away.

The 15-thousand dollar bike only suffered minor damage, and the owner was able to race the following day.

A 31-year-old man is due to appear in court today.
