Stormy weather's traversing the upper North Island, bringing heavy rain and strong gusts

The Coromandel and Tairawhiti are under a heavy rain warning and strong wind watch - and 150 Coromandel properties have no power.

Auckland and Great Barrier Island are also subject to rain and wind watches.

MetService Meteorologist, Mmathapelo Makgabutlane says strong gusts will continue most of the day for the upper North Island.

She says the winds can reach up to 100 kilometres an hour and parts of Auckland have recorded 90 kilometres an hour.
