Warnings still remain in northern Western Australia, despite Cyclone Zelia weakening in intensity

Warnings still remain in northern Western Australia, despite Cyclone Zelia weakening in intensity

The category four cyclone made landfall east of Port Hedland yesterday, bringing record levels of rain for some parts of the state.

But major flood warnings still remain, with some flood watches issued on rivers in the region.

ABC meteorologist Nate Byrne, says hundreds of millimetres of rain drenched parts of the state overnight -- with one part seeing around 280 millimetres.

He says the heavy rain will continue throughout the day, as the system punches through the state's interior.
