Reese Witherspoon was "filled with joy" when she learned that her children had taken her life advice

The 48-year-old actress has daughter Ava, 25, as well as son Deacon, 21, with ex-husband Ryan Phillipe and Tennessee, 12, from her former marriage to Jim Toth and revealed on social media that she had been out to dinner with her sons, where she became emotional when one of them admitted he had learned to embrace being "different" because of her

Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: "We were out to dinner the other night, me and my girlfriend, and my two boys. And my girlfriend said 'What is one thing that your mom says to you that you always remember? And one of them said 'She tells me if I have a choice to be normal, or I have a choice to be weird, I should be weird and it's okay to stand out and be different!'

"And it filled my heart with the deepest joy that he learned that from me, and that it's okay."

The 'Legally Blonde' star - who did not specify which of her sons she was talking about - added that she will love her son "whoever" he becomes in life and admitted that it "meant so much" to her to know that her kids are confident in embracing anything that makes them "different" because it can actually help them stand out in the world.

She said: "First of all, I love him so much - whoever he is. But it just meant so much to me that my kids know that it's okay to be different and it can actually end up being your superpower."
