From a dead heat finish at the nationals to a record-breaking mile attempt at Mt Smart

From a dead heat finish at the nationals to a record-breaking mile attempt at Mt Smart

Teenage middle-distance runner Sam Ruthe will look to become the youngest person ever - and the first 15-year-old - to break the four-minute mile barrier this evening.

He'll be paced by Olympian Sam Tanner, who earlier this month, tied with Ruthe in the 1500 metre final at the national championships in Dunedin.

Coach Craig Kirkwood - who trains both runners - outlines the arrangement for pacing Ruthe.

Ruthe's mile attempt is at 8:15pm - the wet weather in Auckland not expected to put a dampener on proceedings.
