Three Chinese women have been jailed after swindling 100-thousand dollars in cash and jewellery

Three Chinese women have been jailed after swindling 100-thousand dollars in cash and jewellery

    Auckland Airport
    Auckland Airport
They'd used a blessing scam to target vulnerable women in Auckland and Christchurch's immigrant communities in October last year.

They were here on visitor visas and were arrested trying to flee at Auckland airport in November.

The scam is where criminals convince victims they're cursed or suffering from spiritual misfortune.

Victims are pressured to put cash or jewellery in a bag for the blessing - only to discover afterwards their items are gone.

The trio will likely be deported immediately upon release.
