Kristen Stewart has witnessed "tectonic shifts" in Hollywood

The 35-year-old star is making her directorial debut with 'The Chronology of Water', a film adaptation of writer Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir, and Kristen has suggested that Hollywood finds itself in the midst of a culture change

Asked if she's noticed a change during the course of her career, Kristin told The Hollywood Reporter: "I do think there have been some tectonic shifts in terms of who's allowed to take up space and be heard, but at the same time, I don't know what the filters are."

Kristen believes it'll be easier to evaluate the change "in retrospect".

The actress-turned-director explained: "The really quick acceleration ... It's not super easy to keep up with the process and be able to describe [what's happening] in real time. It's almost easier to say in retrospect that it's definitely not the same as it was. It's tricky to put into words - and when I say words, I mean print."

Kristen believes Hollywood has become a more welcoming place for up-and-coming movie stars in recent years.

She said: "I do think that there is a little modicum of room - compared to what I experienced - for people to be out there and for people to find ways and paths and tributaries toward each other."

Meanwhile, Imogen Poots previously hailed Kristen as "one of the greatest directors" she's ever worked with.

The 35-year-old actress stars in 'The Chronology of Water', and she relished the experience of working with Kristen.

Imogen told Collider: "She's really something. She was born to do it. I'm so proud of her."

Imogen and Kristen were both "incredibly passionate about the project". And the London-born actress likened them both to "sports coaches" when they were on the set of 'The Chronology of Water'.

Imogen - who previously starred in 'Jimi: All Is by My Side', the biographical drama film about Jimi Hendrix - said: "We'd like shout at each other on set like sports coaches.

"We were both incredibly passionate about the project and had the same energy around it and the stakes were very high for both of us all the time."
