Children's literacy and numeracy have stayed stable - before major curriculum shake-ups

Children's literacy and numeracy have stayed stable - before major curriculum shake-ups

A Curriculum Insights report just-out looks at mathematics and writing achievement at Years three, six, and eight, before this year's education reforms began.

23 percent of Year eights were where they should be in mathematics - up from 22 percent the year before - and 24 percent were up to scratch with writing.

The Education Minister says it confirms the need to focus on reading, writing and maths.

Erica Stanford today launched a plan, including putting structured literacy intervention teachers in intermediate and secondary schools.
