A Virginia jury's awarded 10-million US dollars to a 28-year-old former teacher shot by a six-year-old student

First grade teacher Abby Zwerner was severely wounded in her hand and chest by a single bullet in 2023, at her school in Newport News.

She was hospitalised for two weeks, and filed a lawsuit accusing the assistant principal of ignoring warnings a child had a gun at school.

The child's mother was sentenced to four years in prison on child neglect and firearms charges, but the child wasn't charged.
