Louvre heist ‘detective’ Pedro reveals inspirations behind viral look

Louvre heist 'fedora man' Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux says the inspiration behind his vintage look includes Agatha Christie's famed detective Hercule Poirot and James Bond.

Fifteen-year-old Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux became the internet's favourite 'detective' when a photo of him was taken at the Louvre Museum's crown jewel heist last month.

The photo captured what appeared to be a mysterious-looking detective alongside police officers on the day of the robbery.

"I realised maybe four days after the photo was taken," Pedro tells ABC News Breakfast, speaking late at night from Rambouillet in France.

He says a friend messaged to ask if it was him, and told Pedro the photo had garnered five million views on TikTok

    Vintage pieces

The vintage outfit that attracted eyes from around the world had people even speculating whether the photo was AI-generated.

But in fact, the pieces were real and personal.

"My fedora, the hat, was actually my grandma's hat," he says.

    "My jacket was mine."

The Saint Laurent waistcoat was his dad's, and the tie was his grandfather's.

    Old soul

Pedro says his 1940s-inspired outfit is influenced by certain heroes from decades past.

"There's, of course, d'Hercule Poirot, who is very chic," he says, citing one of author Agatha Christie's most famous characters.

He also mentions Jean Moulin, a prominent figure in the French resistance movement during World War II.

"He has the hat," Pedro says.

"When I wear the hat, you've got a degree [of angle] to put the hat.

"You just see the part of the face, not all the face, it's kind of funny."

He says many movie characters also inspire him.

"Like maybe James Bond, he's very chic."

While he did not specify which Bond he is most inspired by, he makes sure to mention his fondness for 20th-century history.

The French teen says he hopes more teenagers will be inspired by the positive reaction to his outfit to take on vintage influences.
