Visitors to Aoraki Mt Cook will face daily parking rates of 25 dollars under a new pricing plan

Visitors to Aoraki Mt Cook will face daily parking rates of 25 dollars under a new pricing plan

DOC's confirmed the fees for its paid parking pilot which starts mid-December.

The first 20 minutes is free - before rates jump to five dollars an hour to a maximum 25 dollars.

Annual passes granting unlimited access will cost visitors 60 dollars per vehicle - but locals only 10 dollars per vehicle.

DOC says similar prices are being trialled at Punakaiki and Franz Josef.

It's expecting about 1.5 million dollars in revenue from the three sites - over the seven month trial period.
