Ali Larter finds life in Idaho "incredible calming"

The 49-year-old actress relocated to a mountainous retreat in Sun Valley in 2022 after moving out of Hollywood and has embraced the soothing nature of rural life.

Ali - who has son Teddy, 14, and daughter Vivienne, 10, with her husband Hayes MacArthur - told People magazine: "When I lived in LA, there were so many demands that came on top of being an actor. It's incredibly calming and grounding to live in the mountains, and we love raising our children in a rural, small town."

Larter stars in the Paramount+ series Landman as Angela Norris - the ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton's lead character Tommy Norris - and explained that she shares a similar dedication to her children as her alter ego.

The Final Destination actress said: "I would move heaven and earth for my children.

"She makes up her own rules, and that's so exciting to play because I'm not like that."

Ali needs to mentally and physically prepare herself to work in tight dresses and bikinis in her role as Angela.

The former model said: "I work really hard. I'm not pretending that I don't. There is no space in my mind for insecurity.

"The sexiest women I know are the women that own it, so part of getting there with Angela is owning it."

The Varsity Blues actress has to spend time away from her family as she films Landman in Texas and explained that she relies a lot on her actor and comedian husband during these periods.

She explained: "Our love is so deep and true that it allows me to go away to work and have him as my support system.

"And then when he leaves, I hold down the fort. But he's my rock."

Larter ensures that she still regularly sees her children when she is away working.

She said: "I'm always there for ballet recitals, graduations, parent-teacher conferences. And there's also the rule: If they ever want to come to see me, they're on a plane the next day."

Ali added: "There are no rules I won't bend for that.

"I try to explain to them: You can be a mother, and you can also thrive in your career. I am living the beauty of my dreams."
