The net migration gain annually to September was the lowest for a September year in more than a decade - excluding the pandemic years

Latest Stats NZ figures show net migration of 12-thousand-400 for the year to September, up slightly from the year to May.

More than 46-thousand New Zealand citizens left the country in this period, almost 60-percent of departures were Kiwis moving to Australia.

ASB Senior Economist Jane Turner says it's quite a dramatic slow down from the peaks we saw two years ago.

She says it's those big moves and swings that are difficult for the economy to adjust too.
